Ethical Eating – Free Range & Organic Eggs
After watching Jamie Oliver on TV recently, I was horrified to see the awful state that battery hens are kept in. While I have always made the choice to only buy Free Range Eggs, I have never really seen the condition these hens are kept in.
Unfortunately, choosing Free Range Eggs at the supermarket isn’t anywhere near enough of a step to stop the cruel conditions that chickens are kept in. So many pre-packaged food use cage eggs, and when you eat out at a restaurant, you have no way of knowing what kind of eggs they are using.
Enter the RSPCA’s Choose Wisely website. It’s a directory and information portal where you can find out which local businesses use Free Range eggs, helping you make an informed choice. If you are restaurant owner, please consider switching and listing yourself on this website.
While we’re talking eggs, I have to give you the tip on THE best brand of eggs I have found – Mulloon Creek Farm. Mulloon Creek Farm eggs are not only free range but they’re organic too and they have the creamist orange yolks I have ever seen in an egg and the taste is to die for.
I quite literally drive 30 minutes to Harris Farm to buy them a couple of times a month. If you ever see theseeggs, ignore the price tag, grab a dozen and make yourself the tastiest omelette you’ve ever had in your life!
